The scientific program for the 10th International Symposium on VTEC was built around a true one-health perspective, reflecting the growing recognition that human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected. Researchers from across the globe gathered in Florence to share findings spanning the full range of STEC and VTEC investigation, from epidemiology and risk assessment to diagnostics, typing, and ecological studies. The program also devoted significant attention to pathogenesis and the pathophysiology of STEC-HUS, as well as the latest approaches to treatment. This breadth of coverage ensured that attendees could follow the entire arc of the field, from fundamental science to clinical application, within a single symposium.
The invited speaker lineup brought together distinguished scientists from several countries, each contributing a unique regional and methodological perspective on STEC research. These presentations complemented the contributed abstracts and offered participants an opportunity to engage with the most current questions in the field. Beyond the formal sessions, the symposium served as a key networking occasion, reinforcing existing collaborations and helping to grow international consortia working on STEC and VTEC. Set against the backdrop of Florence, with its remarkable art, history, and cuisine, the meeting provided an ideal setting for both scientific exchange and the informal conversations that so often spark new ideas and lasting partnerships.
